The process of filing for a Malaysian Trademark takes about 12 months. Initial filing starts with the payment for application together with the required fees. You may file for multiple classes. It will take the authorities about 4 months to review for formalities. Another six months goes for review on the data base to see any similarities. If approved it will be gazetted and open to the public for objections. If there are no objections from the public, then a certificate will be issued. Third parties are allowed to object and allowed inter-parte hearing in court. If there are objections from the Trade Mark Office, then the process will take longer. Objectted applicants are allowed appeals and even allowed to bring the case to an Intellectual Property Court.
